The Myocarditis Foundation is proud to announce the publication of this scientific statement!
The American Heart Association (AHA) commissioned this statement to provide guidance on the diagnosis and management of myocarditis specific to the pediatric population.
Myocarditis Foundation Co-Founder, Dr. Leslie Cooper and other esteemed physicians, including a member of our Medical Advisory Board, Dr. Justin Godown, have worked on this scientific statement for over two years.
The Myocarditis Foundation profoundly thanks Dr. Cooper and all the other esteemed physicians for their tireless efforts to educate others on this disease.
Myocarditis remains a clinical challenge in pediatrics. Efforts to define myocarditis have evolved from historically relying on biopsy proven pathological diagnosis to increasing use of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging while continuing to integrate clinical and laboratory criteria to improve the diagnostic yield of these tools.
To improve outcomes, a set of criteria for the diagnosis of myocarditis based on current diagnostic tools was developed.
The Myocarditis Foundation endorses this Scientific Statement:
Diagnosis and Management of Myocarditis in Children,
published in the AHA publication, Circulation, on July 7, 2021.
