6th Annual North American Cardiometabolic Risk in Inflammatory Conditions: Emerging Insights and Treatment of Inflammation in Cardiovascular Disease

April 24 @ 7:30 am - 4:15 pm

Hear Clinical Experts Speak on These Hot Topics and More!

  • Inflammation Imaging and Cardiovascular Risk: Monica Mukherjee, MD, MPH
  • Evolving Mechanisms and Genetics of Pericarditis: Massimo Imazio, MD
  • Great Debate: Treatment for Recurrent Pericarditis: IL-1 Inhibition vs Steroids: Antonio Abbate, MD, PhD, Kevin Boczar, MD
This one-day course will cover state-of-the-art topics on the management of patients at elevated risk of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease due to underlying systemic inflammation. This course is designed to provide an informative and practical guide in the clinical management of cardiovascular conditions associated with systemic inflammation, including patients with cardiometabolic disease, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Other pro-inflammatory disease conditions, such as recurrent pericarditis, will also be covered. The course aims to provide an update on recent data linking systemic inflammation to cardiovascular disease, including the association between cardiometabolic disease, exercise, and underlying systemic inflammation.

Imaging is increasingly important in managing cardiovascular disease, and updates will be provided on utilizing imaging in individuals with immune-mediated conditions to assess cardiovascular risk. We will review current updates in the clinical management of pericardial disease with an additional focus on pericarditis in pregnancy and a debate on the appropriate second-line therapy for pericarditis after failure of colchicine. Cardiovascular complications of such autoimmune conditions as psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and Sjogren’s will be covered. The day will conclude with case studies and practical lessons from cardio-rheumatology clinics, including those related to pericarditis and accelerated atherosclerosis driven by systemic inflammation.

Question and Answer sessions will be spread throughout the day to encourage interaction and audience participation with interspersed panel discussions from experts describing their own experiences, practical approaches, and lessons learned from cardio-inflammatory clinics.
