Monday August 6, 2018 was the day chosen for the 11th Annual Myocarditis Foundation Golf Fundraiser at Arcola Country Club in Paramus NJ, where from the course you overlook the beautiful views of Manhattan. Once again, the heavens shown down on us with wonderful weather, just very hot!
Originally known as the Joseph Rumore Golf Outing, a few years ago it was changed to the Myocarditis Foundation Golf Outing and co-chaired by Joe Rumore, President of the Foundation and Lou Romano, Jr., Treasurer of the Foundation. 100 Golfers participated, many who were repeat players who have been strong supporters of the outing since its’ inception.
Despite the heat, there were laughs all around the course throughout the day and after a shower and a drink they were ready for the speeches by the Researchers who attended from Mayo Clinic in Florida. Dr. DeLisa Fairweather, PhD, Director of Translational Research and Dr. Katelyn Bruno, PhD, a Senior Research Fellow, both in the Dept. of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic Florida, spoke on where we are with starting our Biobank and the findings discovered in their research lab while working with mouse models and utilizing the different viruses that can cause myocarditis.
There were multiple raffle prizes won by the attendees as well as the Grand Prize Raffle of a 4 Day, 3 Night Stay in Bermuda next April.
The Golf outing has always been a significant fundraiser for the Foundation allowing us to carry out our Mission of Education, Research and Emotional Support to those affected by the disease.
The Foundation wishes to extend a huge thank you to all those who donated in any way to the Fundraiser and especially to those who came and played despite the heat and humidity…your generosity and faithfulness, raising the largest amount ever, show that you are truly very special friends of Joe and Lou and the Myocarditis Foundation. We hope to see you again next year…date yet to be determined… God Bless you all!
