Many of you have requested information regarding children and testing after COVID and the timing of return to sports.

We have attached an article posted in Medscape Pediatrics that may help you better understand COVID-19 in children and when can student athletes who have been infected with COVID-19 return to play.

The article is written by: Dr. William T. Basco, Jr, MD, MS, a professor of pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. “2020 Guideline Changes: Return to Play…” December 18, 2020.

Within this article, is a link for the proposed new guidelines from the American College of Cardiology’s Sports and Exercise Cardiology Section in an article in JAMA Cardiology, October 26, 2020. This is a much more involved article and meant for the medical community.

The authors state: “This document was written to address the most common questions posed by the media and in clinics, athletic training rooms, and ongoing discussions among cardiologists who participate in the care of athletes. The authors were selected by the Leadership Council of the Sports and Exercise Cardiology Section of the American College of Cardiology to provide this narrative reassessment of the previous consensus statement.”
