Young Honor Student Taken by Myocarditis
Mackenzie Moreland’s Story
My daughter Mackenzie Renee Moreland passed away from Myocarditis on 10/29/2011. We did not find out the cause of death until Feb of 2012. Kenzie had went to some haunted houses on the night of Oct 28 and planned to stay at a friends house. She was fine. I received a call from the police dept. at 7:30 Saturday Oct 29, stating that Kenz was en-route by ambulance to the hospital. When we got to the hospital we found out that she was unresponsive and had been since the 911 call came in. She had no signs or visible symptoms, although she did tell her friends that she felt like crap. She went outside to get some air and collapsed.
My daughter was 14 when she passed. She was a wonderful, bright, loving, athletic and healthy girl. She was barely 5’2″ 100lbs and full of life. Mackenzie was an honor student who dreamed of becoming an OBGYN. She adored children.
In her honor we established the Mackenzie Renee Moreland Memorial Fund and Kenzies Christmas Wish. Last year at our first golf outing we raised $36,000. We were able to provide Entire Christmas’s to 165 in our area. This year our goal is to raise enough for Kenzies Christmas Wish and to be able to donate to the Myocarditis Foundation and the Mackenzie Moreland Scholarship.
